7 Days Hiking in Tenerife
Tenerife is a paradise for hikers. In just one week, you can walk across volcanic craters, descend deep ravines, follow ancient paths through green forests, and discover hidden beaches only reachable on foot.
This itinerary is designed for active travelers who want to experience the island’s natural beauty through movement — not rushing, but not standing still either. Each day includes a scenic hike and suggestions for where to relax, eat, or stay after. The routes are well-connected and balanced, with options in case the weather isn’t ideal or permits are full.
Day 1: Teide – Pico Viejo Descent | Puerto de La Cruz
Morning: Vilafor and Teide National Park
- Start the day in Vilaflor, the highest village in Tenerife.
- After a nice coffee go up to Teide National Park. If you managed to book the Teide summit permit, take the cable car up and hike down via Pico Viejo, surrounded by vast lava fields and views all the way to La Gomera.
If weather or permits don’t allow:
-
Hike to Alto de Guajara (panoramic caldera views)
-
Or do the Roques de García loop trail — short but scenic
Afternoon: Puerto de la Cruz
End your day in Puerto de la Cruz, a coastal town with botanical gardens, ocean pools, and local restaurants — perfect for relaxing after a big hike.

Day 2: Chinyero Loop | Icod de Los Vinos | La Orotava
Morning: Chinyero Hike
- Start from San José de Los Llanos and hike the circular trail around Chinyero Volcano, the site of Tenerife’s last eruption. The path leads through pine forest and dramatic lava landscapes.
Afternoon: Icod de los Vinos and/or La Orotava
- After this different landscape enjoy the villages of Icod de los Vinos or La Orotava. Each with it’s own particularities but both worth to go and visit.

Day 3: Teno Rural Park | Garachico
Morning: Teno Rural Park
- Today you’ll visit the beautiful and not so crowded Teno Rural Park.
If you’re with the car, the best will be to park in Buenavista del Norte and take the bus (From the main station) to El Palmar (Los Pedregales). - The hike starts in El Palmar. Hike uphill through green terraces to Teno Alto, a remote place known for cheese production. From there, descend toward Punta de Teno, the farthest west point of the island with cliffside views and a lighthouse.
Punta de Teno can be an amazing place for snorkling or just relax by the beach.
- For coming back, you’ll have to use the bus since no cars can reach Punta Teno. There’s only one bus and the last stop will be Buenavista del Norte.
Late Afternoon: Garachico
End your day in Garachico, where you can unwind by the coast, explore the lava rock pools at sunset and have a nice dinner by the sea.

Day 4: Masca | Boat to Los Gigantes

Your start will depend on your route and how you’re traveling:
