Visiting Teno Rural Park
Teno Rural Park sits on the wild northwest tip of Tenerife. Its isolation has preserved a landscape of deep ravines, ancient laurel forests, dramatic cliffs, and tiny farming hamlets. Spanning over 8,000 hectares across Buenavista del Norte, Los Silos, El Tanque, and Santiago del Teide, Teno feels like a world apart. You’ll find old tile ovens, terraced fields, threshing circles, and villages where life hasn’t changed much for generations. Here, nature and tradition coexist in a way that’s rare on the island.
Hiking in Teno Rural Park
Teno is a paradise for hikers. The trails lead through wild ravines, coastal cliffs, high ridgelines, and forests of laurel and juniper. Difficulty varies: some hikes are short and easy; others are long and require planning.
Wear proper footwear, bring layers, and carry water and food. Mobile reception can be limited, and weather can change quickly.
Popular trails:
Masca Gorge (Barranco de Masca) – Permit required; out-and-back to the beach.
Monte del Agua loop from Erjos – Through lush forest and past abandoned homes.
Teno Alto to Punta de Teno – Demanding route with steep coastal views.
