Visiting Anaga Rural Park
Anaga is the green heart of northern Tenerife — a rugged, misty mountain range that feels like a world of its own. Recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, it’s home to ancient forests, dramatic cliffs, remote beaches, and tiny hamlets where traditions are still alive.
Whether you want to hike through laurel forests, discover coastal trails, or explore villages like Taganana and Chamorga — Anaga offers some of the island’s most authentic experiences.
Hiking in Anaga Rural Park
Anaga Rural Park is one of the best areas in Tenerife for hiking. The trails take you through deep ravines, ancient laurel forests, dramatic coastlines, and remote villages. Many paths are part of the official PR (Pequeño Recorrido) network, with signposts and regular maintenance — but conditions can still be steep, slippery, or affected by rain and landslides.
Some hikes are easy and family-friendly, while others are long and demanding. Always check the weather, wear proper shoes, and carry water, a rain layer, and a charged phone. If you plan to hike in areas like El Pijaral, you’ll need a permit in advance.
