El Médano is a beach on the south coast of Tenerife, just a few kilometers from the main south airport. It offers a local atmosphere, golden sandy beaches, and some of the best conditions for water sports.
The area has three main beaches and several smaller coves, all with pale sand and a gradual entry into the water. The town beach, located right in front of the main square, is protected from strong waves and currents, making it safe for swimming and a good choice for families with children. The water is usually clear and calm, and there’s plenty of space to relax and play.
El Médano still keeps a relaxed, authentic vibe without big hotel complexes or loud nightlife.
Thanks to the consistent wind, El Médano is considered the kitesurfing and windsurfing capital of Tenerife, you’ll often see colorful sails dancing above the waves. It’s also a great place for beginner surfers, with gentle beach breaks and several surf schools offering lessons.
The only downside could be the wind, which blows quite often. In winter, it can feel a bit chilly for sunbathing, but for wind and kitesurfers, it’s exactly what makes this place special.
