Information
This coastal walk on the northwest coast of Tenerife runs from Puertito de Los Silos to the Faro de Buenavista del Norte lighthouse. The trail is 3.5 km long and follows the shoreline the entire way, offering open views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Teno mountain range, and even Mount Teide in the distance. On clear days, you might even see the island of La Palma on the horizon.
This path has a long local history. It was originally used by fishermen and women collecting salt from natural rock pools. At night, fishermen would walk the same route to catch octopus and other sea creatures — a tradition that lasted for generations.
The walk starts in Playa del Puertito in Los Silos, where you’ll find a full-size whale skeleton, a pebble beach, and several small natural pools with good access. There’s also a small grocery shop for snacks and a restaurant offering traditional Canarian food.
As you follow the trail, you’ll stay close to the coastline with wide ocean views and cliffs. Along the way, there are several lagoons where you can swim — but be careful: they are completely natural, and access can be tricky. Avoid swimming if the waves are rough.
The walk ends at the Faro de Buenavista del Norte, one of Tenerife’s seven official lighthouses. It’s a quiet place to enjoy the end of the trail — and if you time it right, the sunset views from here are spectacular, often with La Palma silhouetted in the glow.
