Information
Roque de Taborno is often called the “Matterhorn of Tenerife” thanks to its sharp volcanic peak.
A short but dramatic hike in Anaga Rural Park, this circular trail offers impressive views of steep cliffs, wild coastline and green valleys.
The hike starts in the small village of Taborno. The trail begins just behind the church, leading you onto a narrow path along the ridge. Right from the start, you’ll get panoramic views of the Anaga coastline and the surrounding volcanic landscape.
As you walk, you’ll circle around the Roque de Taborno, a 50-meter-high basalt pillar rising sharply from the mountain ridge. This volcanic formation is one of the most recognizable landmarks in northern Tenerife.
The loop is not long, but it’s exposed in some sections, with steep drop-offs and no barriers. The path is generally safe and flat, but not recommended in strong wind or rain. Wear shoes with good grip and take extra care near cliff edges.
At about halfway through, you’ll reach a rocky terrace with a viewpoint over the Atlantic — a perfect spot for a short break or lunch. Along the trail, you might also see goats, old stone houses, and traditional farming terraces.
Most people complete the loop in under 3 hours, with plenty of time for photos and enjoying the silence of Anaga.
How to Get Here
By car:
Drive to Taborno via the TF-12 road through Anaga. The route is scenic but narrow and winding, especially in the final section. Parking is limited in the village, so it’s best to arrive early in the day.
By bus:
TITSA bus 275 runs from La Laguna and stops at the entrance to Taborno. From there, it’s a short walk into the village. Connections from Santa Cruz are possible but may require a transfer in La Laguna.
