Getting to Tenerife is easier than you think
Tenerife is the largest and most visited of the Canary Islands — and getting here is easy. You can arrive by plane from all over Europe or bring your car/campervan by ferry from mainland Spain. Whether you’re planning a short beach holiday or a long stay, here’s how to reach the island comfortably.
By Plane
Tenerife has two airports:
Tenerife South Airport (TFS) – The main international hub, located in the sunniest part of the island.
Tenerife North Airport (TFN) – Handles domestic flights from mainland Spain and inter-island routes.
Tenerife South receives daily flights from major cities across Europe.
From Outside Europe
There are currently no direct flights from the US, Canada, or Australia.
Travelers from those regions usually connect through a European city like Madrid, Barcelona, Frankfurt, or London.
By Ferry
If you prefer to bring your own car, campervan, or motorbike, be more sustainable or simply want to experience the journey differently, ferries are a great option.
Also for people transporting animals is the best option.
From Mainland Spain
Ferries depart from:
Cádiz (more frequent)
Huelva (faster route, limited schedule)
The journey takes around 36 to 40 hours, and includes cabins, meals, and vehicle transport.
Arrivals are at Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island’s capital.
Inter-Island Ferries
You can also reach Tenerife from nearby Canary Islands, such as:
Gran Canaria
La Gomera
La Palma
El Hierro
Fuerteventura (via Gran Canaria)
Routes are fast and frequent, with crossings as short as 1 hour.
Ferries arrive at Santa Cruz or Los Cristianos depending on the route.
