Visit Puerto de la Cruz: Culture, Gardens & Black Sand Beaches
Puerto de la Cruz, located on Tenerife’s northern coast, is the oldest tourist destination in the Canary Islands and one of the first places in the world to attract international travelers. Originally known as Puerto de la Orotava, it started as a fishing village before becoming a major trade port in the 18th century.
By 1886, Puerto de la Cruz had already welcomed European visitors, opening the first sanatorium in the Canary Islands due to its mild climate and fresh sea air. Today, it is a vibrant mix of history, culture, and coastal beauty, offering volcanic beaches, lush gardens, street art, and lively promenades.
If you’re wondering what to do in Puerto de la Cruz, here are the places and experiences you shouldn’t miss.
