Route Highlights
Almond trees in bloom (January–March)
This route takes you through the mid-mountain landscape of Santiago del Teide during the short almond blossom season. Between late January and early March, the normally dry volcanic slopes are dotted with white and soft pink almond flowers. The contrast between blossoms, dark lava fields, and pine forest makes this one of the most seasonal hikes in Tenerife.
The trail follows paths through rural areas with open views towards Mount Teide. Along the way, you’ll pass terraced fields, old farms, and traditional threshing floors that reflect the agricultural history of the area. The scenery changes constantly as you move between pine forest, lava flows, and open slopes.
Instead of the standard route towards Las Manchas, this version uses connecting trails to avoid walking along the road. It keeps the experience quieter and more natural, while still staying on official paths. The route can be adapted or extended using nearby signposted alternatives, depending on time and energy.

Information
Almond blossom does not follow a fixed calendar. The exact timing varies each year depending on rainfall and temperatures, but peak bloom usually falls between late January and early March. Before visiting, it’s worth checking local updates or asking at the Santiago del Teide tourist office.
The hike starts in or just above the village of Santiago del Teide, where street parking is available. The exact trailhead is connected to the local network of signposted routes to SL-TF 60 having diferent variants.
You can do the circular trail you find on the map or just go until you feel comfortable and come back.
We don’t post the orginal trail to avoid doing road trail.
This is a easy walk suitable for different fitness levels if done at a relaxed pace. The route is best enjoyed slowly, taking time to observe the landscape rather than rushing through it. Some sections are gently sloped and accessible, while others are more uneven.
Almond blossom season is short and delicate. Stay on marked trails, do not pick flowers or break branches, and take all rubbish with you. Wear comfortable shoes, bring sun protection, and carry a light layer, as temperatures can change quickly at this altitude.
