Travelling around Tenerife
Tenerife is a diverse island, and exploring it is part of the adventure. Whether you prefer the comfort of a rental car, the freedom of a campervan, or the simplicity of public buses, here are the best ways to get around — including practical tips and legal rules you need to know.
Renting a Car
Renting a car is the easiest and most flexible way to explore the island. Tenerife’s roads are in excellent condition, even in mountainous areas like Masca or Anaga.
You can visit beaches, villages, viewpoints, and natural parks at your own pace. Free parking is common outside of tourist centers. Motorbikes and scooters are a great alternative.
Public Transports
Tenerife’s bus system is reliable, affordable, and connects almost every part of the island.
TITSA buses are modern, air-conditioned, and run on time.
You can use a TEN+ card for discounted fares — available at main stations and vending machines. Buses go to most tourist spots and towns, though remote beaches or hikes may require some walking or connections.

By Campervan
Tenerife is a popular destination for campervan travelers — and for good reason.
You get full freedom to explore, sleep close to nature, and wake up to views of the ocean or the forest.
But there are a few important legal rules you need to follow.
Overnighting Rules
You can overnight as long as:
- You’re parked in a legal public space;
- You don’t place anything outside your vehicle;
- You don’t block access or break local rules.
Don't Do This
- Set up tables, chairs, awnings, or other gear outside your van.
- Use leveling blocks (except small chocks for slopes);
- Discharge any liquids or trash;
- Protected natural areas overnight stays are prohibited unless you are on a designated area or have a permit.
